Eat a live frog

Posted by Beth On 2:35 PM 0 comments
No, I have not gone crazy: check out this video

How often do we put what we least want to do (but usually really have to do) on the bottom of our list? We all know how good it feels to finally get that ONE thing done- that thing we've been meaning to do for days, weeks, months, years. Why not do that first? Why procrastinate? Try it for a week- try to just get that 'thing' out of the way. It changes daily for me- getting up & going on a run, putting together next month's Stroller Strides calendar, cleaning the darn bathroom.
I'm committing to trying it for a week- I will start right now & go cross that 'frog' off my list.

Luna Moms Club Tip of the Week!

Posted by Beth On 8:16 AM 0 comments
Fish – While fish has a lot of health benefits - high in protein and omega-3 fatty acids, low in fat, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding you need to watch how much and what kind of fish you eat because of toxic levels of mercury found in many fish today. Mercury is very dangerous to healthy growth of fetuses, babies and children.

Avoid fish, like shark, swordfish, king mackerel and tilefish, which are high in mercury. It's okay to eat a small amount of fish that have minimal levels of mercury. You can eat up to 12 ounces of these fish a week. The 12 ounces can include:

* Shrimp, salmon, pollock, catfish and canned light tuna
* Albacore (white tuna): Don't eat more than 6 ounces of this tuna in one week

If you have additional questions about the types of fish you can or cannot eat, check with your doctor.

Luna Moms Club Tip of the Week!

Posted by Beth On 2:49 PM 0 comments
Fruits and veggies are fabulous portable snacks that will help you to meet your daily vitamin and mineral needs. As you're heading out for the day, be sure to pack two to three pieces of fresh fruit and some cut-up veggies for healthy snacking. "Ants On a Log" isn't just for kids; it's a good snack for you too. Spread some peanut butter on that celery stick and top it with a few raisins!

Dried fruits and nuts are also handy snacks to have around. Along with fruits, vegetables and whole grains, adding dried fruit and nut mix can help you reach the 20-35 grams of fiber recommended for each day and is a healthy source of non-animal protein.

And remember, LUNA Bars are a great snack for moms. Created especially for women, LUNA bars include calcium, iron, fiber, protein, folic acid and other vitamins and nutrients that moms need.

Ok, I'm almost in love!

Posted by Beth On 9:06 AM 0 comments
I was looking at the Stroller Strides Longmont, CO Blog and saw a coded grocery list that would enable you to make an amazing meal. So, of course, I followed the link to this site: www.relishrelish.com and fell in LOVE! So much so I immediately signed up for 3 months of this awesome service.

I have been trying for months to make a weekly meal plan for my family & cut down the trips to the grocery store & the last minute "what am I making for dinner" stress. Making your own meal plan & list is not hard BUT it is hard to be creative- and although I love looking through my cookbooks & coming up with interesting meals, I tend to get bogged down & never get a good, organized list ready. Which is why this website is made for me!

How it Works:
Every week you get a choice of an 'express' menu or a 'normal' menu- you could even get a gluten free menu! If you pick the 'normal' menu you get to pick 5 entrees & sides & 1 dessert. Your selected menu, recipes & grocery list are quickly made into a pdf you can print out & bring with you. Now this I LOVE- the grocery list is categorized by section of the grocery store: produce, bread, 'spirits' etc. It couldn't be easier!

The website is stocked full of other 'goodies'- Dinner & a Movie ideas (movie & recipes included), themed party ideas (decorations, recipes, timelines etc. included), healthy lunches, appetizers, teen meals, seasonal party & meal ideas etc. etc. etc. Every category comes with a pdf of the menu, shopping list & recipes. Can you tell I love it?

Haven't tried the food yet, but it sounds good! I'll report back next week!

Check it out & let them know, Stroller Strides Flagstaff sent you! :)

Happy Pregnancy Awareness Month!

Posted by Beth On 2:43 PM 0 comments
I posted something on facebook today about Pregnancy Awareness Month & a smart alecky friend of mine said "what does that mean, knowing you're pregnant?", so I figured, like the ex-teacher I am, that if 1 person didn't get it- there are probably more of you that are confused, but unwilling to raise your hands.. :)

Pregnancy Awareness month was started by Anna Getty as a way to empower pregnant women with information, “how to” ideas and inspiration to incorporate PAM’s four key initiatives – education, exercise, nutrition & wellness and nurture – into their life routines and to show women how easy it can be to make healthy changes in their lives for themselves and their children.

Check out the website for more information www.pregnancyawarenessmonth.com for more information & resources.

In celebration of Pregnancy Awareness Month every Stroller Strides & Fit4Baby class across the country is FREE this week. Totally 100% free. All you need to do is print out the coupon which you can download from this post or here and bring it to class.
Come celebrate your motherhood or impending motherhood, meet new moms here in Flagstaff, have fun & get sweaty!!!

Yummy not-too bad for you- cookies!

Posted by Beth On 2:21 PM 2 comments
As some of you Stroller Strides moms may know, I have a weakness for reality tv. I also have a weakness for sweets. One of the 'stars' of the Real Housewives of NYC has a whole-foods baking company and if you watched the show, you got to see her standing around at various festivals & grocery stores promoting her products. My interest was definitely peaked when I saw her with cookies- so I did a little research & found this recipe at Health.com. Looks good to me! She also has a low-cal mojito and 'skinny girl margarita' that sound amazing! Check it out!

  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or other favorite nut

YAY!!!! Way to go 5k Running Moms!!

Posted by Beth On 2:35 PM 0 comments

A HUGE congrats to our Stroller Strides runner; Heather, Lynn, Maricel & Sarah they kicked some serious butt at the Girls on the Run 5k at Buffalo Park this morning! Of course, it was a cool, cloudy morning (what is it with Stroller Strides Sat. activities and wind!), but luckily the wind was at our back on the uphills and everyone finished.

A HUGE cheer to the moms for achieving their goals and doing it with a smile on their faces (at least at the finish). You guys are all truly amazing & an inspiration to the rest of us & most importantly your husbands & kids! So give yourselves a HUGE pat on the back & I hope you are enjoying your post-race day.

And of course- thanks to the husbands for supporting us and managing the kiddos! Thanks to Lynn & Greg for the pictures too!

Bouncing Bottoms

Bookieboo.com is a fantastic online community for moms that are interested in fitness/weight-loss if you aren't already a member, check it out (and become my friend & join the Stroller Strides group)
I came across this blog post today & LOVED IT!!!

I went for a run this morning. While running, I noticed my bouncing derrière.
There was a time in my life where this feeling alone would have stopped me dead in my tracks and caused me to retreat to the closest four walls, but today I celebrated.

I celebrated the strength in my glutes, thighs, and calves.

I celebrated my curves.

I celebrated being a woman.

I celebrated my daughter.

I celebrated the wind on my face.

I celebrated the beauty that enveloped my running body.

I celebrated Tigger and his jolly bounciness.

I celebrated kangaroos.

I celebrated women all over the world.

I celebrated my spirit.

I celebrated life.

I CELEBRATED.

The simple act of celebration caused me to run harder and faster.

And it all stemmed from my bouncing bottom.

What can you celebrate today that once caused you pain?

Define it.

Find what’s perfect about it.

Celebrate.
